About Gregory Pence

Gregory Pence is an American author, bioethicist, and philosopher.

He is a professor in, and former Chair (2011-2017) of, the Department of Philosophy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Director of the Early Medical Acceptance Program, and former Course Master for Medical Ethics, University of Alabama Medical School (1977-2011.)

He is a prolific writer and speaker, and the recipient of the IRELAND PRIZE at UAB for scholarly distinction. In 2001, he testified before the US Congress and the California Senate against criminalizing human cloning. His Congressional testimony can be found here.

He coaches the UAB Bioethics Bowl Team, which won national championships in 2011, 2015, and 2019.
